In all our renovation projects we strive towards a harmony between the original elements and modernization. While there is a lot of respect for the testimonies, guarded by the mature structure of old buildings, we want to breathe new life into them with the addition of contemporary elements. In project Milis light was a central element in our search for the updated version of the town house, to shake off the dark and grimy vibe and bring in more horizon, more perspective, more air.

On the ground floor we literally opened up the house to the outside, to the lush garden. By adding a square window, seen from the kitchen, dining room and front door, that gives an almost painting-like view on the natural surroundings, we brought the outside in. It functions as a counterbalance for the clean, straight shapes inside. We used a lot of artisan materials, especially in the reviving of the floors. The tiles are heavy in their materialization but light in color and finishing, a balance that matches with the old house. A lot of energy and attention went into the restoration of iconic elements such as the stairs, the wooden floors and the carpentry.
